They use a variety of measuring equipment and technologies depending upon the type of survey including modern Total Stations, Digital Levels, the Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and remote sensing systems including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Boundary or land surveyors are licensed by individual States to determine the legal property lines and help determine the exact locations of real estate and construction projects.
