The Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) degree is a Board-approved collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division courses intended for transfer to baccalaureate programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification. This plan is for those who are interested in certification to teach foreign language for Early Childhood through Grade 12.

In order to be eligible to receive this A.A.T. degree, a student must:

  1. Complete a minimum of 60 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
  2. Earn a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 1301  and the selected college-level mathematics course;
  3. Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.5;
  4. Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI)  requirements and course prerequisites; and
  5. Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College.

Distance Learning/Online: This A.A.T. degree may be taken through a combination of on-campus and Distance Learning/Online; or if planned correctly, the degree may be completed entirely through Distance Learning/Online.

Receiving institutions are not required to accept a grade below “C” in transfer.

Students who plan to transfer must work closely with an advisor/counselor.

Mathematics - if a student takes the four (4) credit hour mathematics course; three (3) of those hours will apply towards the mathematics requirement. The remaining one (1) credit hour from that mathematics course will be applied to the general elective requirement and does not count towards the 42-hour Core.

 • Life and Physical Sciences - This requirement cannot be met using the following combinations: BIOL 1406 and BIOL 1408; BIOL 1407 and BIOL 1409; BIOL 2420 and BIOL 2421; CHEM 1405 and CHEM 1411; CHEM 1406 and CHEM 1411; CHEM 1405 and CHEM 1406; CHEM 1406 and CHEM 1407; GEOL 1401 and GEOL 1403; PHYS 1401 and PHYS 1405; PHYS 1401 and PHYS 2425; PHYS 1405 and PHYS 2425.
