Dallas College must comply with federal law to enroll international students as provided in FB (LEGAL) and (LOCAL) and as guided by the US Department of Homeland Security via the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). An applicant seeking F-1 admission must visit the Dallas College international student admissions webpage for details on requirements and how to apply.
All international applicants/prospective students at Dallas College MUST complete the following:
- Visit the Dallas College webpage for international student admissions for detailed information and how to apply as an F1 international student.
- Meet one of the following criteria for demonstrating English language proficiency for F1 admissions consideration:
College-Level Proficiency
- Provide a TOEFL score of a 71 or higher on the internet-based version. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) must send your score directly to Dallas College.
- Provide an IELTS overall score of 6.0 or higher. Dallas College will receive your certified results within 48 hours of the test session when you request to send your results to Dallas College.
- Provide a Duolingo English Test score of 105 or higher. Dallas College will receive your certified results within 48 hours of the test session when you request to send your results to Dallas College.
Elementary Proficiency for Language Training
- Take the ACCUPLACER ESL Placement test. Results will be evaluated by Dallas College ESOL faculty/international staff to determine if elementary proficiency is met. You must request a remote testing referral from international admissions if you are outside of the U.S.
- Submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score with the following elementary/intermediate ranges:
- TOEFL iBT score of 39-70
- IELTS score of 5-5.5
- Duolingo English Test score of 80-105
In order to be exempt from submitting English proficiency test scores, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- You’ve earned a high school diploma from a high school in the English education system in any English-speaking countries/regions.
- You’ve completed a minimum one term of full time post-secondary academic studies in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand where English proficiency is required for admission.
- You provide an acceptable GCE Ordinary Level or Advanced Level results, GCSE results, or acceptable Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations [SSCE] results of by the West African Examinations Council.
- You are a citizen of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Belgium, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Islands, christmas Island, Cook Island, Dominica, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Jersey, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Island, Federated State of Micronesia, Montserrat, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Island, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Pitcairn Island, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Sint Maarten, Solomon Island, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
- You have an official transcript from an accredited college or university in the United States showing a grade of “C” or better for English 1301 or the equivalent and/or other courses as determined by TSI rules to qualify for a waiver or exemption.
- You have successfully completed the final level of an intensive English program of Dallas College.
- You have met the TSI requirement in reading and writing through successfully completing the TSI test, are otherwise exempted from taking the TSI test in reading and writing, and/or present scores from an assessment test approved by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board under TSI.
- Note: TSI may still be required even if the required English proficiency test scores are submitted. Applicants from native English-speaking countries may be waived from English proficiency test requirement but may not be waived from taking the TSI assessment.
- Show documented evidence of sufficient financial support/sponsorship for the academic year.
- Submit an official transcript from each United States college or university previously attended.
- Provide a copy of your passport.
- Provide official written medical proof of freedom from tuberculosis through either a negative Mantoux tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray that was given in the United States within the last year. Note: Those applying from outside of the United States may complete and submit this requirement upon arrival.
- Provide official written medical proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination. Bacterial meningitis vaccination is required for anyone who is 21 years of age or younger. Dallas College recommends that all prospective students have adequate immunizations for diphtheria; rubeola, rubella, mumps, tetanus and poliomyelitis (see Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for College Entry and Department of Health and Human Services Recommended Adult Immunization Schedule).
Transfers within the United States from Other Schools
In addition to the requirements stated above, international students currently in F1 status transferring from another U.S. institution MUST provide documentation to determine F1 SEVIS record transfer eligibility.
F-1 Transfer Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be in good/active standing with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Dallas College does not assist with F1 visa reinstatement.
- Must be maintaining normal academic progress in the United States.
- Must not have already earned an associate or higher degree in the U.S. or completed U.S. graduate-level coursework. An exception to this policy is if you have been admitted to a selective admissions program at Dallas College.
All transfer international applicants/prospective students at Dallas College MUST:
- Have an OFFICIAL transcript on file from the current SEVP-certified school with an established grade point average (GPA) and/or proof of first session completion. If you are in progress of your first semester at the current school, you may be unable to satisfy this admission requirement by the application deadline;
- Provide a copy of the current form I-20;
- Provide a copy of the most recent I-94; and
- Provide a copy of the F1 visa stamp or USCIS Approval Notice of Action if changed status to F1 within the U.S.
Health Insurance and International Students
Dallas College strongly recommends that international students obtain health insurance for the duration of their studies. Lack of health insurance puts a student at risk of serious financial challenges if medical expenses are incurred and a student is unable to pay.

Note on Student Visa Type M-1
Dallas College presently has no active non-credit Vocational or Technical Education (M-1) programs in which international students may be admitted. However, in the event that this changes, Dallas College is certified by the SEVP to host M-1 visa holders.
