Tuition Exemptions

Exemptions are a type of financial assistance allowing some Texas residents to attend a public college or university in Texas without paying tuition or, in some cases, tuition and fees. Examples include the following:

• Blind or deaf students
• Children of disabled firemen and peace officers
• Children of prisoners of war or persons missing in action
• Salaried Fire fighters enrolled in fire science courses
• Foster-care students
• Highest ranking high school graduate
• ROTC/National Guard students
• Senior citizens,
• Hazelwood Exemption (for Texas Veterans)
• Children of U.S. Military who are Missing in Action or Prisoners of War (MIA/POWs),
• Orphans of Texas Members of the U.S. Armed Forces or National Guard
