SRGT 1340 - Perioperative Nursing (3 Credit Hours)


Campus Location: ECC

Introduction of the registered nurse or new graduate nurse to the operating room environment. The intraoperative aspect of perioperative nursing is emphasized. Included are basic principles of sterile technique, sterilization, preparation, care and use of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment; ethical/legal implications; surgical pharmacology and anesthetic agents; basic care and safety of the patient in the operating room. The scrub role is emphasized.

Prerequisites: Recommended : Current R.N. licensure by the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas, or graduate nurse pending NCLEX-RN examination. Current CPR certification. Acceptance into the Perioperative Nursing Program.
Corequisites/Concurrent: Corequisite/Concurrent: SRGT 1167 .
