Emergency Medical Services/Paramedic A.A.S.

  • Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College.

This award combines classroom teaching with supervised clinical and field experience for those seeking certification or license as a Paramedic with the Texas Department of Health Services.

Applicants must:

  • Fulfill all requirements for admission to both the college and the EMS Program.
  • Meet the State TSI requirements.
  • Complete the prerequisite course in Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Submit a completed admission application packet to the EMS program office at Brookhaven campus on or before the enrollment period deadline. Information appointments are available to further discuss the application process and required documentation for the program.

Upon successful completion of all course work for the degree, the student is eligible to take the exam for registration as a Paramedic through the National Registry of EMT. Upon successful completion of that examination, the student is eligible to apply for certification or license as a Paramedic in the State of Texas.

Texas certified EMTs enrolled in the Brookhaven campus Paramedic Program are eligible for credit for EMSP 1501  and EMSP 1164 .

Prerequisite: Documentation of successful completion of the National Registry of EMT exam must be submitted prior to registration. Paramedic candidates must show proof of more than six months of active (two or more patient encounters/24 hrs) EMS experience; OR have completed the BHC EMT basic program in the preceding two semesters; OR successfully completed (score of 70% or higher) the paramedic Entrance Exam administered through FISDAP (Field Internship Student Data Acquisition Project). A current valid certificate of completion of an Emergency Care and Safety Institute, American Red Cross, or American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) for Professional Rescuers/Healthcare Providers is required to enroll in any EMSP class and clinical/internships.

Proof of completed immunizations are required. All candidates must submit, and pass, a criminal background check and a drug-screen at student’s expense.

A minimum grade of “C” or better for ALL EMSP courses is required.
