Technical Pattern Design A.A.S.

The pattern designer converts the fashion sketch or original garment into an industrial pattern used in the mass production of clothing. The pattern designer may work alongside a designer creating custom patterns for private clients. Drafting is the skill of developing a flat pattern with measurements. Draping is the skill of developing a pattern by placing cloth over a dress form.

Upon completion of the program, the student could work as an assistant in the pattern department of an apparel manufacturing company. Technical product development is another job need in the fashion industry whereby pattern designers complete tech packs for off shore garment production. Students must complete all FSHN and FSHD courses with a “C” or better to be awarded this degree.

The Fashion student is provided a program curriculum of study related to the fashion industry. Fashion classes along with academic core courses enables the student to pursue an A.A.S. in Apparel Design  or an A.A.S. in Technical Pattern Design or both.

Must be selected from the AAS Core Options for Mathematics . For first-time college students in the Fashion program, MATH 1332 Contemporary Mathematics (Quantitative Reasoning)  is the recommended Mathematics elective. MATH 1332  is a part of the A.A.S. Core Options for Mathematics.

++Social/Behavioral Science Elective


Must be selected from the AAS Core Options for Social/Behavioral Science .

+++Humanities/Fine Arts Elective


Must be selected from the AAS Core Options for Humanities/Fine Arts .
