Alteration Specialist Certificate

The Alterations Specialist Level 1 Certificate is designed to prepare students for employment in clothing alterations and custom tailoring for the apparel industry. The award focuses on garment construction, tailoring techniques, custom clothing, and fit analysis for different body types. Students will develop basic draping, textile, and pattern-drafting skills that will also enhance their ability to re-size ready-made garments or create custom clothing.

Students who complete this certificate will be able to work in the alteration service business, bridal alterations, retail alterations, or start their own establishment as a tailor, dressmaker, or custom sewer.

NOTE: Students must complete all FSHN and FSHD courses with a “C” or better to be awarded this award.
